Karkat Vantas is an adult troll living on beforus working as a pyrotechnic down in the southern Beforan mines, and has been studying long term in attempts to join law enforcement. On Beforus, limes are frequently employed as law and authority related helpsman due to their strong psychic influence and manipulation powers. Unlike Cerulean who take direct control of the trolls around them, limes can passively influence the moods and mindsets of the trolls around them with little effort. Karkat lacks this ability, and thus has been sent to the mines where the other lesser limes work in various helpsman positions. Karkat has been a mutant in hiding for as long as he could remember to avoid the fate of culling, or worse, getting kicked out of the city gates for being unfit to work. Karkat is still new to his job in the mines and is NOT happy about it, not understanding why they're using grown vulnerable trolls as canaries instead of developing gas detecting sensors they most definitely have the technology for. Karkat has not/will not play sburb, but for what it's worth, he's a Mage of Blood.
